Spice Jet

Spice Jet is certainly one of the most popular of ‘no-frills’ airlines in India. Not only does it offer cheap tickets to destinations across the country, it also delivers when it comes to timely performance. This is one airline that has managed to clock one of the highest on-time flights in the country; which is a great thing. Considering the lack of punctuality even in expensive airlines, the performance of Spice Jet is truly delightful. Flights usually take off on time and arrive on time, unless natural problems start.

The check-in staff at Spice Jet counters in airports is usually extremely polite, helpful and friendly. There will usualy be ground staff around to help first- time fliers as well. This is perhaps because Spice Jet knows that a lot of its clients have traveled by train all their lives and may need help at airports. It is also something that makes it stand out from the crowd. Flight attendants are also warm and helpful; which is how they are supposed to be. Spice Jet does not offer free food or beverages (except water) on its flight, which is very understandable considering that it is a low- cost airline. But for people who are hungry and looking for a bite, prices are quite cheap on the flight.

Spice Jet may not offer 5 star treatment as Kingfisher does, but it offers comfortable flying to destinations across the country at dirt- cheap prices. What more can a frequent flier travelling on business ask for?

Kingfisher Airlines

Kingfisher is one of those airlines which live by the notion of ‘Living it up’. It is not for nothing that Dr. Vijay Mallya, its owner, is called the ‘King of good times’. Kingfisher is truly an airline that lives up to its image. It delivers great on- time performance, great service and the little frills that really matter when one does not mind paying a wee bit more for a great flying experience.

It would be wrong to think that Kingfisher is a low- cost airline; because it is certainly not. Economy seats too are not exactly in the low- cost range considering the dirt- cheap tickets doled out by ‘no- frills’ airlines flying domestic routes in the country. But it certainly delivers. Seats are very comfortable and there’s enough legroom for everyone. The ground staff and the cabin crew are extremely friendly, polite and helpful. They work really hard to impress the fliers and the effort shows through when each flier is greeted by their names during landing. The food quality is one of the best in India. What’s more it’s free! Beverages are offered more than once during flights and there are choices of meals one can choose from. It is a pleasure for people who love Indian food to have such great meals on flights. The in- flight entertainment system is great too, with a good choice of channels, films and documentaries being offered.

Overall, Kingfisher is one of the best ways to fly in India.

Jet Lite

Jet Lite was previously known as Air Sahara after it was bought over by Jet Airlines. It is a low- cost airline meant for people who want to fly but don’t want to spend a huge chunk of their salaries for it. It is a decent airline, though quite functional, but that is something that can be expected from it since it proclaims it is ‘no-frills’. The services are quite as expected from low- cost airlines and nothing exceptional is usually noticed.

The ground staff and the fight attendants are all efficient and know their jobs well; though they are not overly- friendly, as is the case with expensive airlines. Aircrafts are clean and well- looked after. Flights are on time. However, everything one eats on the flight has to be bought; but that is okay considering the cheap flight tickets. The snacks are priced reasonably and are of decent quality. In- flight magazines are provided to fliers.

A lot of fliers complain about the shopping that happens on flights of Jet Lite as it is basically useless. Also, the official website of the airlines could do with a face- lift considering that it is not very use- friendly. Another thing that there have been complaints about is that seats are cramped and it becomes difficult to sit for a long time because of the lack of legroom. Perhaps, Jet Lite could look into it and come up with solutions.

Overall, experience of flying with Jet Lite is mostly good.

Jet Airways

This is an airline which flies both domestic ad international routes. Fliers flying domestic routes have given mixed responses when it came to describing their experience with Jet Airways. It is a mid- range airline with mid- range priced tickets which are not exactly rock- bottom. When it started out, Jet Airways had received a lot of adulation and accolades for being a great airline, but it seems that it has not been able to keep up to it. The reason for this may be many, but the buying-out of Air Sahara may be a case to point.

Anyways, though most flights usually depart and arrive on time, delays are being reported more and more frequently. Also, a lot of passengers have complained about the lack of helpfulness on the part of flight attendants on Jet Lite, which is something that should not be ignored. Flight attendants are not attentive and seem to have nothing to do. There are times when the bell is rung and no fight attendant arrives to know what the issue is about. What’s more, food quality is not good too.

However, there are good things about Jet Airways that ought to be noted. The official website is very user- friendly and booking air tickets is a cake walk. Also the staff at most check- in counters is helpful and friendly. Overall, an average experience of flying with Jet Airways is all one can be assured of. Perhaps its time for the airline to gear up and make itself noticed.

Go Air

Go Air is a low- cost airline which was started as the answer to the middle class’s travelling problems. Low- cost it is but whether or not it has actually eased the problems of people is a different story altogether.

Go Air belongs to the Wadia family, which is one of the Bombay Dyeing fame. They have managed to create an airline which offers the cheapest tickets to any given location and great services to boot. Go Air definitely wins hands- down when it come to prices of tickets. The services are quite good too. Staff at check- in counters has been trained to be polite and respectful to customers, which is something that cannot be honestly said about other airlines in India doing the domestic routes. Flight attendants too are extremely polite and smartly- dressed, which makes travelling with this airlines all the more pleasurable. The truth about flying in India is that most people using flights frequently look for nothing other than polite behaviour from ground and flight attendants. They are not looking for free food or beverages (as some airlines like to believe), but a flight that is pleasant and uneventful. Go Air gives it to them and that is the reason it is winning awards and accolades.

A complaint made about Go Air is that it frequently delays flights; but that is something that is decreasing day by day. Also, its official website could do with a revamp with an easier user interface and options for payment with a foreign credit card.
